PETONE & LOWER HUTT CITY TAXIS LIMITED was incorporated under the Companies Act 1933 on the 21st day of January 1949 and changed its name to HUTT AND CITY TAXIS LIMITED on the 20th day of October 1994 and was reregistered to become a company under the Companies Act 1993 on the 11th day of June 1997.

Hutt and City Taxis have been on the roads of the Hutt Valley for over 86 years.
From their beginnings in 1932 (incorporated in 1949), the company has evolved and grown with the Hutt Valley, faithfully ferrying people from place to place across the valley and further afield.
Hutt and City Taxis have always been innovators. In the 1970s the company pioneered use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a fuel in vehicles, and opened New Zealand’s first public CNG filling station. In 1984 the company introduced New Zealand’s first taxi specifically outfitted and adapted for transporting disabled people. 2001 saw Hutt and City become the first taxi company in the Wellington region with GPS.
Passenger safety is something that Hutt and City Taxis have always prided itself on too.
Back in 1989, the company was a forerunner in addressing women’s safety in taxis, printing business cards with an 0800 telephone number on, stating “Tell our telephonist you are a woman alone and you will get a high priority dispatch.” The company’s fleet and drivers are checked and maintained not only to the normal national NZTA standards, but to the company’s own strict standards of presentation and safety.
The company uses the latest communications and security systems in an efficient fleet of largely hybrid vehicles. Recent technology includes innovative mobile device applications showing the user where their nearest Hutt and City Taxi is in real time. All cars also feature EFTPOS, Snapper, AliPay, WeChat Pay, and Apple Pay.
